Out at the Tightrope (Hot Chip vs. Janelle Monae)

This track originally started out as an adaptation of my old “Tightrope” mashup. However, I quickly found out that the other samples I were using (Offspring,Devo, etc) just got in the way of this awesome ’mental. So, I scrapped that idea and just made a straight up A+B. This track is more of a remix than a mash, but I think it gives the Monae track even MORE funkiness! Hope you feel the same.

Tracks used:
Out at the Pictures(Instrumental) – Hot Chip
Tightrope(Acapella) – Janelle Monae ft. Big Boi

Summertime Fire (Janis Joplin vs. Johnny Cash)

Who knew you could make Johnny Cash sound more depressing!

Seems like I’ve been in a much more serious mood lately. This track is an example of that. I took the vocals of “Ring of Fire” and gave them a more melancholic, “bluesy” feel with this great instrumental from Janis Joplin.

Now, the ‘mental is not perfect. There are quite a bit of artifacts in it, but I don’t think they take anything away from the overall production. In general I was going for a live, blues-type atmosphere with this one. My only concern is that the vocals might be a bit too loud in some places…which seems like quite a trend with my mashups.

Obviously, comments and suggestions are encouraged. Hope you enjoy.

[Bootleg] Looking for Space to Jump (John Denver vs. Van Halen)

[BOOTLEG] Looking For Space to Jump (John Denver vs. Van Halen) by Ryan Nellis

This was just too weird, even for me.
I wanted to try and use a country instrumental, but they’re so damn hard to find. After messing around with this John Denver track, I came up with Van Halen’s, “Jump.” However, I think the two clash too much for this mashup to work. There are some volume issues in here as well, but a Bootleg isn’t supposed to be perfect, right? If you enjoy it, cool! If not? Don’t judge me :p

Naive Grey (The Kooks vs. AFI)

Another track featuring two bands I know little about. I found the instrumental on YouTube the other night, and I really liked it. So, I started searching through my ‘pella archive and thought these AFI vocals worked well. These bands both seem to be in the same genre, so it’s no surprise they fit so snuggly.

Tracks Used:
The Kooks – Naive (Instrumental)
AFI – Girl’s Not Grey (Acapella)

Tipsy Frankenstein (Edgar Winter Group vs. J-Kwon)

If you’re head isn’t bobbing to this song, then you must be as dead as Frankenstein!

Regardless of how this track does, I had a lot of fun making it. I don’t know why or how I came across the idea of these two coming together, but I’m glad I did. An awesome 70’s rock instrumental meets…well…J-Kwon.

I had to do some minor cutting with the Instrumental so that the chorus and main riff matched up in certain parts. Other than that, it was just a matter of warping and patience. I also added a little clip from the original Frankenstein film in there.

Guess that’s it. Enjoy!

Played 20 times

It’s about time I throw up another bootleg of mine. I just made this, but it’s been so frustrating trying to get everything Equalized that I just said fuck it. Maybe I’ll come back to it someday and fix it. Oh well. ENJOY.

David Guetta ft. Kid Cudi - Memories (mental)
